Hi Tim

Well, I would LOVE some more techie details of your welding of Ti. REALLY. My spot welding efforts were just not good enough. But I do not have any arc welding facilities.

OneDrive – no joy yet.

Cheers

Hi Roger,
I have sent a photo of the welded camera mount by email. Is the problem with Onedrive at your end? Can others get the photo up from the BPL article comments? It did not display the photo in the forum when I sumitted it (the videos did so). Sorry for the ignorance on these matters, but you will see that I am making sloooooow progress. Thanks for help members.

Regarding the welding of Ti and SS, where do I start. Is this forum appropriate or should I start a new thread? Never done this before.

Briefly, I have a light commercial spot welder for thicker metal sheet and a home made one that I designed for thin metal foils and I also went out on a limb and designed it to fit into nearly impossible spaces and cavities and luckily it works! I seldom make a Mk 1. of anything that works first time, and I have many times in my life (as an inventor) had a little anxiety before I test something for the first time and often put it off, I suppose no one wants a failure after putting in a lot of thought and innovative work into an unproven technology).
Both welders seem to work equally well with both SS and Ti of equivalent gauges. The weld strength seems to be at its best when the welded ‘nugget’ is starting to get a little ugly. If the surface is left too neat and smooth then the weld may not be as strong as I would like. I judge my weld strenth by prising the two sheets apart and a disk of metal from one side is pulled out and left on the other. A nasty thing to happen when you make a welding mistake!

Storm has just hit.

Hi Tim

Onedrive: I get a ‘This folder is empty’ message.

Spot welding – I too made my own. I am, not happy with it: I think the transformer core is going into sdaturation. But I have not pursued it recently as i am busy playing stoves and other things.

re threads: this is not an engineering forum, and the welding is relevant to the wood stove, so I suggest you could leave it in this thread.

Cheers
