Backpacking in the Elko, Nevada area end of May?

I’m not a local there, but I’ve done some hiking up in Lamoille Canyon that is superb.  The only question is snow…and you may not know that until you follow the weather for the next month.

We did love the wildlife refuge on the East side of the Ruby Mountains, and it might be accessible–it’s lower elevation–but not sure about backpacking there.
