Considering getting a new shell and trying to decide between the Arc’teryx Zeta Fl or the Patagonia Storm Racer, my next big trip will be the TMB the 1st week of July and looking to take advantage of any Memorial day sales coming up. Thanks
May 11, 2019 at 5:18 am #3592418I’ve used my Zeta FL for a total of two trips now in the pouring down rain, snow conditions and lots of elevation gain. This is by no means a long toothed opinion. Waterproofness and the breathability of it is really quite good. I’m a very fast paced hiker. I never had an extremely clammy buildup. I was being very conscious of my layering though. Depending on exertion I either had on only a wool/poly short sleeve base layer t-shirt or also an R1 hoody pullover (2018 vers.) The feel of it next to the skin is not bad. It almost has a soft texture to it. I stayed dry throughout without wetting out. I did open the front pockets occasionally as vents to purge out heat as well as partially zipping it down. But honestly I found it to just work better with it all zipped up and the proper layering underneath. I have really long arms and the sleeves are about 1 1/2″-2″ too short in my opinion. This is a problem with all rain jackets I’ve tried. I think the industry needs to look into this. The fit is very snug, especially under the armpits. I think this works well with the backpack straps. At first I thought the one adjustment for the hood was going to be a problem but the design is thought out well enough and I didn’t even notice while using it. I changed out the zipper pulls for some fat grippy Chums from REI. I’m a convert to these pulls and put them on everything. Almost. This jacket is still relatively new to me so long term durability is still being tested
