My Wife and parents are pitching together for my Christmas present this year.  I’ve been wanting a puffy jacket for years now, and finally getting one.  They have ordered me an Arcteryx Atom SV hooded synthetic puffy from the LEAF line.  In my size, the only color in stock was “Wolf” (gray).  I would have preferred Crocodile, but the Wolf is a very nice color as well, and is quickly growing on me.  My only other Arcteryx product is a Bravo soft-shell in Wolf color.  At least I’ll match if I layer.  Hahaha

I have to admit, I’m super excited.  I’ve been wanting a hooded puffy for a long time and I think it will work great with keeping cold out of my neck when I use my quilt, instead of a mummy bag.  I’ll provide a review once I get it.  I think the Atom SV has been discontinued from the civilian line, but it is still available through the LEAF program.

Presents are nice :D And Arcteryx makes great products, though the quality has a cost to match! I’m getting their 75ltr carrier duffle this Christmas, in Umber, can’t wait :)

In terms of synthetic puffy, how does their proprietary Coreloft insulation compares to Climashield apex – have there been reports, warmth and loft retention after a time?

Congrats on your Christmas duffel! :-)

I honestly don’t know.  I haven’t read up on Coreloft or Climashield Apex.  I have a sleeping bag and quilt in Climashield Combat, and it is pretty warm and lofty stuff.  I’d be curious to hear how Coreloft holds up.  From the reviews I read folks were saying that several years of wearing their Atom SV’s, they were still nice and warm, and their favorite jacket.  That’s probably a good sign.
