I’d like to get feedback whether the “Zip” is a plus or a problem.  Is it something that has failed in the field due to dirt or grit? Has the access been good enough to warrant getting it? If you were choosing one today, would you go with the zip or the mesh pocket?

I have the Arc Zip and love it.  It’s been on about 15 trips (roughly 600 miles) and I haven’t had any issues with either the outside pocket or the main zipper.  Please note that I hike in the hills of Pennsylvania where we don’t typically have fine grit blowing around.  If you’re hiking in the desert or along the shore your results may be very different.

Both are great. I have a Arc Blast with mesh. Friends have Arc Haul (with mesh) and Arc Zip. Mesh provides easier access, but is more delicate.  I have minor holes in the mesh after ~ 60 days of use.

I had the mesh.  About 20 seconds of leaning it against a granite rock and there were holes. Went to the zip about 5 years ago and it is going strong.
