Went to open a new tube of Aquaseal to fix a leak in a sleeping pad. It’s cured inside the tube. Not wanting to go through this again. Anyone have an alternative to Aquaseal that works for repairing pads?

SMALL tubes of silicone adhesive. Not the large cartridges: they solidify in a week after opening. But you have to allow many hours of curing: hardly useful in the middle of the night.

E6000+ comes in a 0.9 fluid ounce size. Not quite as perfect as Aquaseal as a permanent, flexible adhesive/sealant, but pretty close and cures in about 1/2 the time. Give it a try.

IIRC, I’ve had success keeping opened tubes of these products in the freezer. That doesn’t help you with the new tube problem, which really shouldn’t have happened. Presumably the seal failed on the tube somewhere.

Will the silicone adhesive be compatible with a Thermarest pad and Tenacious tape over the top?

The silicone adhesive should be compatible with the Thermarest pad. However, ordinary Tenacious Tape will not stick very well to the cured silicone adhesive.
However! Tenacious tape should stick directly to the Thermarest pad without the silicone I think. For sure, it should last for a few nights in the field I think.
There is also a version of TT for silnylon. Probably not suitable for repairing airmats by itself, but useful for tents etc.

I use B-7000, it’s a fabric glue which is stronger but slower setting than E-6000.  I have successfully repaired 3-inch rips with this glue on bottom and tenacious tape on top.  You can get tiny tubes for field use.  It will slowly thicken in the months after opening so the small tubes are an advantage.  As an added bonus it repairs tents, quilts, garments, you name it.

I use Tear-Aid fabric repair tape, Type A,  for just about everything. My Nemo Tensor inflatable pad, PVC inflatable boats (use Type B for vinyl boats), attaching things . . . But not for silnylon.

The solution is Aquaseal + UV Field Repair Adhesive. It comes in .25 oz tubes. Stays fresh because the remainder in the tube won’t cure without sunlight. Dries fast in the sun. I keep one or two tubes with me at all times. Amazing stuff.

I forgot about this stuff, thanks for the reminder!  Just ordered one.

I like Nemo’s little ziploc trick at 9 mins in this video.  Always have one from a previous dinner

That UV Aquaseal looks nice. The ziplock bag trick also helpful. Thanks.
