I was looking for at least 10x zoom but with faster aperature in small, light package so it fits in my hipbelt pocket. The aperature on this is worse than my Canon S120. What are the ZS100’s closest competitors than can do 10x or more? Thank you for any insight.
Sep 21, 2016 at 9:11 pm #3427430That’s a pretty tall order because the ZS100 is f 2.8 on the wide end.
The lumix dmc zs60 has a longer zoom, retains 4K video, is a couple hundred cheaper, but you’d lose the 1″ sensor of the ZS100 and end up with a slower lens.
The RX100iv is f1.8 on the wide end, also has a 1″ sensor w/ 4K, but is more expensive and you’d only reach out to 70mm vs the 200ish mm of the ZS100.
There are other cameras that are fast enough with plenty of zoom, but won’t fit in your pocket (RX10 family for example).

Mostly when I know I’ll do night shots. The main thing I know I would use it for are school functions in auditorium or gym with so-so lighting. Lots of times over the years I wished I could zoom in more and not have to slow the shutter way down and crank up the ISO. But I don’t want anything large or with removable lens.
Sep 26, 2016 at 10:13 pm #3428240I really can’t think of a camera that meets all the requirements in your OP. The Lumix LX100 has a m4/3 sensor, the aperture is plenty fast at f1.7-2.8, but only 75mm on the long end.
If you want both the reach and the fast lens, as you may have already figured out, you’re liklely looking at an interchangeable lens camera such as a m4/3 (lumix/oly), APS-C (sony/fuji), or any of the DSLRS.
I’d love for someone to show me what I missed as I’d love to have a constant f2.8 24-200mm camera that can fit in my pocket.

A really big pocket?
I gave up on the long end and went for the LX100. And even that is at least awkward if not too big for a typical pocket.
