I am in Taipei for the next couple of months. Would love to meet with others who love ultralight backpacking who live here to pick your brains about good destinations and what might be uniquely Taiwanese when it comes to techniques, gear, etc.
Hey Mark,
have a great stay. I was there just for a week last year and visited most of the shops you had told me about at the GGG. I’m jealous of the time you get to spend there now. It was always a great time to visit when I had business there, but I never had such a long stay.  Enjoy!
For people who pass through Taipei, I would highly recommend stopping by no/W in the Da’an district near NTU. The store itself is excellent, really great curation… I could re-buy most of my current kit at the store. Has nearly all Gossamer Gear products (several of which aren’t sold in the US), Durston Gear, Cumulus, Rab, Montbell products, minimalist sandals, XoSkin toe socks, Trail Designs stove, and NiteCore headlamps / USB battery packs.  Oh, and they even have  a Chinese version of one of Don Ladigin & Mike Clelland’s books on ultralight backpacking.
Better yet… they are passionate about ultralight backpacking and climbing. Â It sounds like TW response to ultralight is similar to the US 20 years ago… people are generally skeptical. Here is to the folks at no/W helping folks in TW to take less and do more.
