I was looking at this vest to pair with my R1 and a wind jacket.  I would wear the r1 and wind jacket if I needed some warmth during the day and wear the vest if I needed some serious warmth.  Might even sleep in the vest in my summerlite.  I would mostly use this during 3season use in the Sierra Nevada.

I have used one for years in the exact same way, I refer to it as my nuclear warmth.

Ha!! Nuclear warmth!   That is awesome!   What kind of temps are you comfortable in with that setup?

A Cap 3 with a hiking shirt and the vest under the windshirt I regularly go down into the high 20’s. low 30’s around camp but then I am also usually sitting in the down bag.  I have used it with a Highlite down to 20 degrees.  I have only worn it hiking once in a really cold windy overcast day in the low 30’s.  My size large is 8 0z. but great loft and handwarmer pockets.

This was a 28 degree night, super clear.

Thanks Alex!  Do you find that it is a warmer setup with the wind shirt on the outside of the vest?

Also, I have the Kalais pack too.  I saw your post on it on your website.  We would be quite the twin duo if we met up some day! lol

I do find it warmer under the windshirt, it holds the heat in better.  If you look close at the picture you can see how puffy it looks and it is not because I am a body builder.  ;-)

Yeah we could be quite the sight on the trial.

Drew, I also have to clarify that my vest is the precursor to the Helios, called the Hyperion but essentially the same.  I have had it at least 15 years.
