Question:  Anyone have suggestions of alternative brands to Samson or the best source/price?

 

I’ve seen 2mm and lower from Emma Kites on Amazon and a few China brands, but am leery of quality.  Obviously wouldn’t use for hanging but for tarp, etc.

I ordered some Amsteel, Zing-it, and Reflect-it from DWG but it hasn’t shipped yet after 4 days (guess Dutch is slammed and with reduced staff).  I’m planning a 4 day trip in 2 weeks and concerned my DWG order would get here in time to then still build everything, so I just ordered 600′ through Amazon and with Prime it will be here Sunday.

Digging into the source it’s LFS Marine & Outdoor in Alaska and turns out they have 600′ foot spools of 7/64 on sale for 97.39+13 shipping (link below if anyone interested).   That’s the cheapest I’ve found it so far (I paid more for Amazon, but 2 next day delivery).

Litesmith carries an alternate product but I haven’t used it. They ship quickly and did so a few weeks ago.

I did check out LiteSmith, their Catzye product is comparable in price, weight, etc. to reflect-it but they were out of orange.   I did order some other items from them (twice now actually) and you were right they shipped same or next day.

Good! I’m glad the suggestion worked for you (edit: it sounds like they were out of stock). I like Litesmith’s products and they have reliably shipped as fast as Dutch does.

West Marine usually stocks Lash-it in the stores if you need it quickly

I checked marine shops around me and none had it in stock, so just ordered entire spools online and have lots of extra now. :)

Matt, yeah they shipped same or next day, wish they carried more products as they have been the quickest response and shipping of any of the ultralight MYOG/Gear online stores I’ve found.
