For the last few days, Amazon links posted in BPL forums create weird results when you click on them. Something confusing about Kindles. I’ve used the TinyURL shortening service to get around that, which is far less than ideal.

I’ll try some Amazon-supported alternative URLs.

    Results:

    • Above each URL I posted the link without ”https://” to make the following link more visible but not clickable.
Instead, BPL’s current software turned some of those into clickable Amazon links that start with “http://” (note the missing “s”) but do the right thing!
    • amzn dot com slash ASID doesn’t get mangled at all.

The joys of modern Web software continue!

Plain Amazon URL (with tracking crap at the end removed):

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08LQWMMD1/

    Shorter
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/B08LQWMMD1/

    Still shorter (WINNER)
    amzn.com/B08LQWMMD1
    https://amzn.com/B08LQWMMD1

    Bit.ly to amzn.to
    amzn.to/3bM27Da

    TinyURL

And here’s a picture of what I posted before clicking Submit:

Same URLs, but buried under plain text

    Results:

All worked fine except “Shorter,” which gets an Amazon not found errror.

We are aware of this. We know how to fix but will be delaying that until after launch.
