Aluminum pop-rivets for detachable pot bail?

The trad Oz tin can and wire billie just used simple holes. The holes may have been a bit crude too. Seemed to work though.

Is the steel wire more secure because you don’t trust the aluminum rivet? You can get stainless steel pop rivets too. Do you have an example pic of what you are trying to accomplish?

You just start bending the wire against the supporting steel star stake a few times. Eventually it fatigues and fractures.

On one trip in Europe I was so stupid as to lose some of my lovely Ti wire tent stakes. Heartbreaking of course. I found some scrap fencing wire (honest, it was a discard), and made some more stakes by hand as we walked along. Bend, bend, bend. I think I still have them somewhere as a memory thing.

Yes.

There’s also the coals method – use a stick to scrape some coals out to the edge or the fire pit and set your pot right on them with your pot holder.  You have to wait for some coals to form, but no new gear or mods necessary.  So I suppose it depends a bit on your use case and expectations.

A couple small holes works pretty well. I think I borrowed some rather heavy gauge aluminum wire from a piece of heavy electrical cable I got from a an electrician friend. I simply heated the ends and rolled them into a ball to keep them from coming out…a few grams I think it was. Anyway, it lasted (still in service) nine or ten years.  Push it up when heating the pot, it gets hot. Good for carrying water or moving a full pot off the stove.
