“I DID NOT attach a link. The new BPL programming did it automatically.”
Awesome! Â Not.
It has become invasive and very annoying :(
I suppose most interested people saw Ryan’s explanation for this “feature” and that it was going to kept “for at least 90 days to play with the keyword linking algorithms and see how this works”.  Apologies for the thread hijack, but since that thread was closed, it is clear that in this instance BPL management is not interested in the opinions of it’s members.
I cannot for the life of me imagine a scenario where implementing a “feature” that irritates your membership…the very people who provide the value that make your business possible…could be considered a good idea.
I would imagine that a survey of members about whether or not to implement this would result in a decisive NO vote.
It was a couple of months ago that RJ said this in one of the threads, the last sentence must be the new way of generating revenue:
The origin of Top X Lists and Best ___ of 2019 lists (i.e., listicles) are from the very well-studied field of “internet content marketing” – which has one goal – to sell you something.
Savvy internet marketers who’ve run a jillion A/B tests have determined that these two types of headlines are some of the most effective headlines you can use in order to invite clicks.
That means if you see someone using these headlines, you know they have read these internet marketing strategies and are employing them to their full potential with the primary motivation of getting ranked higher in search engines (because people search for these terms), and inviting clicks that lead to the sale of something else (ads, affiliate).
I’ve studied these strategies for years, and I loathe them. They are scammy, click-bait-motivated, with the end motivation being to sell something, not provide value.
I’ve even tested a few of them on this community through the years. Guess what, they work. However, this community is savvy and have called us out on them for being scammy, whether sponsored content that provides only advertising for the company, gear guides that only have affiliate links in them and don’t support non-affiliates, or headlines that aren’t honest. You hate them, so I stopped using them. It’s not worth giving up the soul of a community for the primary purpose of maximizing clicks from the outside.
Certainly, there are more creative and more honestly-motivated methods of generating website revenue that preserves trust and respect within a community.
I’ll use two different bags depending on where I am going. Â The first is the TNF Base Camp Duffle. Â Highly water resistant, incredibly durable, solid features (including removable shoulder straps). Â Not cheap though.
The second is an old hard case suitcase.

I have this duffle bag and it’s perfect for containing a large backpack and serving as a piece of checked luggage. Buy it on sale somewhere – I paid significantly less than full price. It has backpack straps itself and three zippered mesh pockets on the inside. It’s made from 1050D nylon, so it will last forever as a piece of checked luggage. The backpack straps are surprisingly comfortable. I’ve worn it on my back at an airport with maybe 40 pounds in it (while wheeling two other pieces of luggage). This is where it shines – when you have that third piece of luggage but only two hands. I rarely have that much luggage, but it saved me on some long trips that combined backpacking with normal vacations.
Having said all this, usually my backpack goes inside a normal suitcase, but if you’re set on using a duffle I’d give that one a look.
