Aeon Li and bad weather

Good day,

I have an Aeon Li first generation (without zipper) and I wonder if anybody has experience with bad weather, storms, rain and this tent. I’m also a 6’3 tall guy and it works okay (not too happy though) in dry conditions. Alternatively I have an older Hexamid Plus from 2017 but I like the small footprint and easy setup of the Aeon.

Thank you for any opinion

To pile on:

I am also interested if anyone has experience with pitching it low or high in these conditions. I have only had it in the desert this winter where I really didn’t need a tent anyway. It seems that if the pole is at 110 cm, the bathtub has quite low side elevation.  If you got to 120cm, the bathtub has better walls but the tent has more wind and splash exposure.

thanks.

this was also true of my old Hexamid solo. I think it may just be an aspect of the design of these types of tents. Maybe someone else has a remedy! To me Aeon looks very storm worthy. A sweet tent!

I would be curious how the corner flaps hold up to driving wind and rain coming in sideways. They kind of just barely cover the corner vents and don’t make a tight seal. The pitchloc corners also add some strain to the tent stakes due to leverage and the angle they pull at in higher winds. Might need stakes with more holding power than normal tent corners.

At 6″3″ I would think you are too tall for the Aeon Li. It’s actually a really small shelter, even with the pitchloc corner struts. It makes it even worse if you want to drop the height for bad weather.

One major design issue I have with the Aeon Li is that the back half of the tent is pretty much set at the height you can set it at. There is very little adjustment there, where as a shelter like a Zpacks Altaplex style can be adjusted at different heights evenly on all sides. The Aeon is mostly just raising and lowering the front half of the shelter.

I’ m a side sleeper and it worked ok for me during the 2 weeks nice weather period I used it. But always thought how would it be in real bad weather.

Thanks for the all comments
