I have never struggled on any of my trips to make a proper fire with natural materials, or failing that some toilet paper and hand sanitizer.  I live in Southern New England for context.  If its November or April and its been raining a week straight, I’d probably bring some firestarter (wax/lint pucks) or plan to not need a fire.  But I’ve never encountered such a situation.

I carry tiny scissors and a lighter on all my trips and this year have been exclusively cooking over a fire (no stove).
