A pretty cool bootie system

I recently ordered GOOSFEET down booties (with 50% overfill option) B/CI I plan to do winter car camping this year using my tent for sleeping. These booties have no reinforced sole. They are strictly for tent use and sleeping.

BUT GOOSEFEET has over booties and I ordered them as well for “trips outside the tent”.

This combination makes a lot of sense to me as I don’t want clunky booties with tough soles and rands on my feet in my -20 F. mummy bag. I keep boot liners, water and battery operated items in the foot of my size Long winter mummy. Thick bootie soles just would not work in there.

I’ve used my booties for boot liners. Even with the obvious problems, they kept my feet warm.

many years ago Merrill (I think) sold a similar system… high loft booties and light fabric  overboot with ensolite pad.  worked great on our snowshoeing trips.

Recently I used SHOE GOO and made 8 wavy lines across the bottoms of the over bootie soles.  I’m hoping this will give me a bit more traction than the smooth Cordura soles.

Also I removed the GOOSEFEET 3/8″ thick closed cell foam insoles and inserted closed cell foam about twice as thick. Can’t hurt, especially if I’m walking around on the cold floor of a hut or cabin for a while.

Looking back on other gear I realize I am a “modder” at heart. Witness my running Crossing Poles under the flys of two of my Tarptents.  Can’t resist it.
