I am right on the cusp of the medium and large size GG Gorilla.

The website says:

Medium (16″ – 19″ torso) (41 – 48 cm.) Generally fits people 5’4″ to 5’9″
Large (19″ – 22″ torso) (48 – 56 cm.) Generally fits people 5’9″ to 6’2″

I am 5’10” and about 19″ on the torso so I am right between the two sizes.

Does anyone of similar size have a recommendation of what to get?
I am in Australia and buying two then sending one back is an expensive proposition.

I'm your size. I bought a Mariposa at the PCT gathering, and was fitted as a large by a company rep. So when I down sized my kit and got the gorilla I also ordered a large. BUT I feel since I'm using the waistbbelt higher as I lose weight I might have done better with a medium. So it depends on how the shoulder straps level put on your back cause too high isn't good. The large puts me just on the edge of where I want to see those straps height wise.

My torso height is 18.5. I accidentally acquired a large, and it was way too big. I've since acquired a medium, and it's just a little larger than I'd like. I'd think a medium would be perfect for you.

Kenneth, you are at the top end of a medium torso and you still find the medium a little too large? Its sounding from your comments and DM's above that the size range of a medium is too low.

Perhaps it should extend to a 20" torso or users up to 5'11"

I have a small torso for my height as I'm 6'-2". I center the belt at the top of the hip bone. The dimensions from the center of the belt to the shoulder strap is 18 inches. This is measured along the edge of the backpack. The straps are at the edge. With these dimensions you can do a mock-up and determine if this works. Hope this helps.

Peter, I had the same dilemma. 5'10"(and a half), 19" torso (plus or minus a little every time I measured). I got a size large, and the straps come off my shoulders right at horizontal. Some people would say this is perfect, but I think it is a little too large. It is hard to keep the pack from shifting side to side as I walk – I suspect this is from not having any wrap down around the back of my shoulders, but this may also be because I'm very skinny and the shoulder straps don't get pulled out forward very much by my chest.

Unfortunately I haven't tried a medium to know if it is a better fit overall.

Edit: my Gorilla is a 2013 model.

On the previous version the large Gorilla measured 22" from the bottom of the harness panel to the level of the shoulder straps. With the belt that was 5" wide this made it pretty ideal for someone in the 20-21" torso range. If your torso is in fact 19" and you wear your hipbelt in a conventional location the medium is probably the way to go, but the large would be fine as well. Depends on personal preference as to how you like your shoulder straps, as well as what your normal load will be. If said load will be up above 11 kilos most of the time going larger is probably the way to go.

Probably worth calling GGear and confirming dimensions on the new version just to be sure.
