point and shoot AA batteries <150?

I'm off to the Grand Canyon over spring break. Down South Kaibab and out on Bright Angel. I'd like to bring a light, inexpensive (<$150) point and shoot on the trip. Must use aa batteries. Before you flame me….I have researched the forums but what's good changes day to day and a lot of what turns up on search seems outdated. Any recommendations? In general, pics of people and rocks! Not looking for heart stopping telephoto close-ups of condors or anything. I have a nice canon T3i for that, if the birds would just cooperate. Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm sure you can find one of these used for under $150. It has variable focal length so telephoto and wide angle photos within limits. It weighs about 5.5 oz and takes two AA Batteries. Good optics and mine has been extremely reliable. I used it for 21 days on the JMT and for a seven day trip in the Grand Canyon and the batteries still had juice left. I've had it now for seven years and it still works great in spite of a number of scuff marks.

You can get a Canon A550 for about $20 on eBay. It takes AA batteries and is a 7.1 Megapixel camera. If you're curious about the image quality, you can search for Canon A550 on Flickr and see some great photos.
