Jetboil just released a picture of their newest product – the Flash Lite. The only details I can find so far – 11oz and $99. I assume more info will be coming out shortly.

Nice. But the Zip already is 11 oz. I suspect this one has a auto lighter (the Zip doesn't).

I would call the JB Zip 12 oz. The Zip is also only 800 ml (nominal) capacity. I assume this new Zip would be 1000 ml (nominal) capacity. Lighter and greater capacity with a piezo? That sounds like an improvement to me. This might be some consolation to those who bemoan the loss of the Sol line of Jetboils.

Thanks for the heads up, TAG.

I put up a comparative chart of integrated canister stove weights and prices if it’s of interest.

There has been some discussion as to why Jetboil scrapped the Sol Ti and Sol Al. Looks like now we know: They’re introducing a new light version. It’s about the same weight as the old Sol Al but with a full liter capacity.

Looks like a savvy move to first discontinue the Sol and thereby attract attention to the lightweight integrated canister stove market – and then introduce a new lightweight model.

Hard to tell from the photo, but I wonder if they are using the same burner that comes with the Mini Mo. They're both black, which doesn't mean too much. But if that's what you get, it is almost worth buying one for the burner alone (with an REI 20% coupon, of course).

Yup, non-regulated burner, and it's orange again. What's up with JB's fixation on orange these days, anyway? And that flimsy handle! Maybe the after-market beefy handled Sol cozy will fit that pot. Not sure what they are doing here with this new Flash, but I think the best combination would be a Sol aluminum pot (with the beefy cozy) coupled with the Mini Mo burner. A bit heavier, due to the burner, but what great performance.

That, and a 1.0 L Reactor, and you'll be set for all conditions above 20* F. Sure, there are lighter options, but those two burners blow away the competition in their respective categories, IMO–superb simmering and stellar fuel efficiency (Jetboil), and superior wind resistance (Reactor).

I’m hoping that orange cozy is just a Prototype or something. Looks a bit ugly. And it would be the opposite of where Jetboil has been going with cutesy patterns and such on their cozies. Look at the plaid Flash next to the Flash Lite. Plaid for crying out loud. :)

As for the handle, I have to say that falls in the category “what were they thinking?” But I haven’t seen it yet.

It makes sense that at $100 they would not put the Minimo Burner on the Flash lite.
If they did,why would anyone.buy the.Minimo at $30 more?

As to the pot "handle" ..Its NOT intended to be a handle . It's a finger loop meant to slide your first finger into when grabbing the pot with your entire hand around the cozy.

The previous Jetboil cozy handles were hand loops(4 fingers) the " light" version is just for one.

The Cozy colors? Frankly,I mind the Buffalo plaid a lot less than the cheesy plastic they festoon their burners with.

Jim, do you think the non-regulated burner would be compatible with a Sol Ti cup? I'm assuming a n-r burner would be lighter, and if I can lighten up my Sol Ti, which I dearly love and can't for the life of me figure out why they want to discontinue it, then by all means. I'm guessing the Russians, who possess 98% of the world's Titanium deposits, retaliated against the West's economic sanctions by cutting off supplies; better go out and buy up all the Ti pots and tent stakes, etc., while they're still available (he said tongue-in-cheek)!

A bad thoight just popped into my head.

All we have right now in terms of specs from Jetboil about the Flash lite is a few pics and their CLAIMED weight of 11 oz..No product in hand verify weights.

How was that figure arrived at, by playing the same mind games they didbwith the SOL Ti weights?

Does the 11 oz weight include the bottom cup and pot stand?

Other than a slightly lighter weight pot cozy and maybe lid, it could be that Jet boil dropped most of the weight over the origional Flash merely by creatively omiting items, just as they did the Sol Ti vs Sol Aluminium.

Yeah, Jimmer,

I am practically dying to put that bad boy on a scale. I want to know if this thing really is as light as a Sol aluminum or is this “creative accounting”. “Oh, you wanted to include the burner in the weights?” It’s like when truck manufacturers list vehicle weights sans seats and bumpers. Yeah, like I’m really going to buy a truck without seats.

Monty,

I’m 99.9% sure the Sol Ti pot will fit on a Flash Lite burner. All of their basic upright style burners and pots have been compatible to date. The only stoves from Jetboil that I can think of that were not compatible are the Helios and the Joule which are specialized inverted canister stoves.

And that’s a very good idea to combine what should be a lighter burner (I mean how else are they going to cut 3 oz?) with a Sol Ti pot. Might take the Sol Ti down another ounce which would be outstanding.

It doesn’t surprise me that much that they would move away from the Sol Ti. The aluminum fins on the Ti pot are, well, not fragile like a Fabergé egg, but way less durable than aluminum on aluminum. They work if you’re careful, but they can be unforgiving if you aren’t.

Yeah, I know that’s what Jetboil says. I’ve never found the strap particularly useful. I know a lot of people just cut it off. Maybe if I had small hands, I’d use it as a strap.

The finger loop on the new Flash Lite? Well, I haven’t seen it in person yet, but it practically screams “cut me! cut me!” :)

Flash Lite, really? The Jetboil "Flashlight." If I was a flashlight I'd be pretty pissed at this point. First Sierra Designs names a tent the "Flashlight" and now Jetboil uses the name for a stove?! Show some respect.

Jim et al., What conditions/scenarios would this outshine the Sol? Or does it live in the Sol's shadow?
