I was checking out REIs latest sale, and noticed there are two nice, and light Gore Tex Active options from Eider running 50% off. A lot of sizes are still in stock. In addition to the discount, right now with $100 purchase, you get a $20 gift card which makes the 9.5 oz shell roughly $100.

Any thoughts on these or the brand? Based on my research, Eider is a French brand, and quite popular in other parts of the world. They appear to be owned by the same parent company as Millet, which has a great reputation.

I went by the store to check out the Target Aero, and then ordered the Knit item, which arrived today. The Knit Shell feels almost like an old fleece. The shell has a tough feel, but more supple than normal Gore Tex, and is somewhat soft on the gray area. The cuffs are elastic, and the waist hem is elastic as well. The hood is not helmet compatible, and when you put it on, the jacket rides up a bit… or perhaps I have a big head.

The Target Aero shell is quite nice, and I was surprised by the quality for $200. For the weight, you get what appears to be a very well made 3L shell, in a potentially more breathable WPB than other lightweight Gore Tex/Laminated shells, with pit zips, velcro cuffs, etc.

Hi Rodger,

I bought the jacket, but could still return it. I simply wanted to see if anyone had some experience with the item or similar items.

The Sierra Designs looks quite similar, although a different material!

Do you find the hood is a bit lackluster given the lack of visor?
