Have a steripen adventurer on my shelf. Gonna try using it on my next trip. My question is this..
Once I use the pen to sterilize my water..is it OK if I carry the water and for how long? Is it better to keep it out of light or dark? Does it matter? Thanks…
It's okay to carry water. Doesn't matter if it's in light or dark.
There is some organic material in the water after sterilization. If bacteria from the air got into it, it would be possible for the bacteria to grow. But most people would keep their water cool and drink it within a few hours so this wouldn't be a problem.
Maybe if you stored the water for days or months or years you would have to think about that?
I read this quite awhile ago, but as I recall it takes considerable time (days to weeks) for bacteria, etc., to repair their messed up DNA. So it's basically a non-issue if you're hiking and drinking the water within 12-24 hours.
In using a Steripen for the last 5 years, I've had no problems with it.
