I am looking for a lightweight digital hanging scale to weigh my pack before i start a trek. I always see Glen van Peski weighing his pack with one but i was never able to track one down.

As you think of it there should be an offering in the BPL Shop, how can you have a gramm weenie shop without offering at least two really good digital scales.

So does anyone knows or use a light and portable digital hanging scale.

Check out the fishing gear section of your local sporting goods shop, or maybe even your local Wal-mart/Target/K-Mart. All that is is a digital fish scale ;)

I have a brand X digital fish (hanging) scale (similar to this one )that I picked up here in the US at TJ Maxx, a chain of retail overstock stores (mostly clothing and shoes). This one was in the Men's Gift section, along with minature pool tables, odd golf accessories, and drinking kits no one wants. (Marshalls is another chain that comes to mind.)

Mine (as well as others I've seen) doesn't display weights less then 8 oz. (and it displays weights in .8 oz (or .02 kg) increments above 8 oz.) You can be creative to get weights less than 8 oz. if need be.

My digital fish scale cost me $20 at a tool shop, and weighs from 1 ounce to 50 or so lbs. Accurate for that $20 as well!

I use a digital fish scale for weighing my full pack but the inexpensive digital fish scales are not great for weighing lighter items (under 8 oz). I found a "Weight Watchers" food scale (spring scale) at a second hand shop that weighs up to 1 lb and seems reasonably accurate and it only cost $1.50.

I use a kitchen scale for the lighter stuff & a Rappala Digital Fish Scale that measures in 1 oz increments upto 50lbs.

The Rapala is great; the handle on top makes it easy to use. (Not certain, but it may be the one Glen uses.)

Please note – the backlit scale weighs upto 25lbs, and the non backlit scale weighs up to 50lbs.
Disconnect the 9V battery when not in use because the Rapala drains even when the unit has been turned off & shut down.
