I have a non BPL friend who is interested in going (Devyn).

Anyone is welcome to join, hope all who have expressed interest can make it! We can probably muster up a few extra fishing rods if people need them.

Well, if I fish I'd probably need something suited for bass, right? Is there anything else in Mississippi (website doesn't mention any other fish) Is the bass there good eating?

Bass is the only fish I have ever caught in Mississippi Lake. Our sons and I have enjoyed eating them They are just the right size for dinner :)

Hi Manfred – what's required in terms of line weight? I only fish for trout normally…

Your trout fishing gear will be fine. i use my Tenkara for the bass, my son Daniel uses his flyfishing pole and my son Philipp uses a spincasting set-up with 6 lbs line.

I've got a good friend coming into town the weekend of the 27th – I will unfortunately not be able to make it on this trip. I tried to tell him there'd be fishing but he wasn't too keen on the amount of walking.

Hi! Are you still accepting additions to this trip? All this spring weather is making me feel like getting an early start on backpacking this year, and I'd love to go hang out at a lake if this continues. (I would duck out if signs point strongly toward a cold, wet weekend–I can deal with that if it comes along, but it's not something I'll deliberately go looking for.)

Just in case you are wondering about the weather this weekend and it is keeping you on the fence to join us this weekend, I’m adding this link to the local weather report for Mississippi Lake in Henry Coe.

My wife and I went bike-packing at Coe this weekend. Tons of flowers out there right now, hopefully it will be even better for this trip this coming weekend. The ceanothus is blooming; Indian warrior, baby blue-eyes, fuschia gooseberry, Indian paintbrush, California poppies, Mount Diablo sunflower, coyote mint, wild cucumber, Johnny jump-ups, vetch, shooting star, the list goes on…

The group is coming nicely together. We should have a lot of fun this weekend — and hopefully fresh bass for dinner on Saturday and/or lunch on Sunday.

Our meeting place on Friday will be Poverty Flat which is roughly 3 miles from HQ. People will arrive on Friday at all times (depending on their work schedule between 1 pm and 10 pm) and hike on their own (or with their car pool buddies) to Poverty Flat. Everyone is responsible for paying the appropriate fees themselves (car parking, camping Friday, camping Saturday). In case you intend to hike in early on Saturday morning and miss our group at Poverty Flat you can meet us at Mississippi Lake or catch up along this route.

Poverty Flat — Creekside Trail — China Hole — The Narrows — Los Cruzeros — Willow Ridge Trail — Willow Ridge Road – Mississippi Lake

Mississippi Lake has two restrooms, one at the dam (south side) and one at the inlet (north side). We will be at the north side.

Do we need to worry about permits if we arrive late at night? Will we have one group permit for all of us?

The ranger building at HQ has a box outside where you can get after hours a form for car parking and a form for the camping permit. You fill the forms out and pay at the iron ranger that is located on the left side of the road when arriving at HQ.

I didn't get a group permit. Everyone will just get their own camping permit at HQ.

Is anybody interested in carpooling? I'll be leaving from work in downtown Berkeley and could probably get off early quite easily if that were helpful. I usually take BART to work and could take it to any convenient station to meet up with someone who's driving, or I can bring my car to work with minor planning.

Hey Rebecca, Morgan and I will be carpooling from Santa Rosa and going through the east bay. But I get off work at 6 which would put us in the easy bay around 7:30ish. So planning on night hiking in.
You might be able to get an earlier ride with someone else, but if not we can pick you up on the way.

Thanks, Justin! Ideally I'd go earlier, but I'd join you guys for the late start rather than drive solo. I assume you're coming over the Richmond Bridge, so I could meet you in Richmond (where I live) since it'd be a while after the end of my work day.

PS. Just checked in with my boss about timing for Friday, and it looks likely that I won't have work at all. So, leaving from Richmond any old time.
