Nia, lighter fluid will remove most types of glue, including duct tape. And it will evaporate when done leaving only a smell behind.
If the hole is small, quality duct tape will form essentially a permanent patch, stronger than the underlying material.

Thanks for the info Brett. My only concern with leaving the duct tape is putting it through the wash. It did hold up will to 20 days on the trail though.

McNett makes washable fabric tape that I have used to patch my sleeping bag. It has been washed once with no problems. I used the clear tape but it comes in several colors.

Has anyone tried super glue to bond the shell together and seal a hole?

Super glue isn't a very good general adhesive and is a bad fit for any flexible bond such as fabrics. Cyanoacryllate adhesive is a poor gap filler, and has weak shear strength compared to its tensile strength. That said, something like the 'rubberized' gap filling Loctite Black Max is one of the more useful, durable CA adhesives that might work well at bonding on pole ferrules for example.

I use Kenyon ripstop nylon tape in the field and if necessary hand stitch the patch edge if it starts to roll up of the fabric.
