Suggestion – minimum 5% price drops for bumps

I know we take a dim view of bumping ads in the classifieds section – appropriately in my mind – but that we also allow people a bump when they price adjust.

Can I make a policy suggestion? I think it would make sense to add rule that says that price adjustment should be a minimum of 5%. I have seen a couple of items get bumped because of a price reduction from $300 to $295 or $170 to $168. This is basically just bumping by another name.

Hardly an earth-shattering priority, I know, but I think if the rule were created, people would follow it, and pseudo-bumps would decrease.

I don't mind bumps – by someone else or by me. Unless it's an everyday-ish thing.

I don't think I abuse it, though. At least I hope not.

is this that big a problem?

doesn't seem worth the rule-making to me. much less the enforcement.

I think the level of bumping that folks engage in is totally fine. It's usually every few days, only a couple of times, or with more pictures or a price decrease. Very rarely does it rise to the level of annoyance. And the alternative is that an item you might be interested in rapidly sinks out of sight (and Lord knows it's unfindable with the current search system), not good for the seller or a prospective buyer.

Gear swap (with a very rare exception) is a part of BPL that works well, with fair sellers and buyers, lots of trust, and good, well-priced and well-described offerings.

Just what we need. More government. More taxes. At least it's not just a plain old bump.
And what's so wrong with that? Maybe someone posted something 3 or 4 days ago..and a simple bump will put it back on page 1 for people who missed it 3 days ago to see..no harm done.

That's why you look at recent threads instead of recent posts.
100 bumps don't do a thing.
