Here's a subject I've not seen on BPL for some reason.
Not a big ticket item but maybe you can share some of your sock theories here.
Thin-Thick, short-long, wooly-synth.
Sock layering, care etc.
Sock it to me !

Smartwool Adrenaline short crew sock.
Accept no substitutes :D

I like the smartwool adrenaline cycling. I wear them every day to work. They are very thin and stretchy. I also have some of the light adrenaline ones, which are quite a bit thicker. I like them too, when it cools off a bit. Both of these are in a low crew and would be too short for full boots.
I tried the SmartWools being mentioned and they work alright alhough I still get blisters with them. I've also tried Ultimax socks and those work ok. I just bought some Teko EcoWool quarter socks to try last night. They offer more padding than the SmartWool while still coming in the quarter size. They were marked down too..and they're green if you're in to that sort of thing.
I always seem to get blisters unless I use a synthetic sock liner.
With the liners, I usualy wear some sort of merino wool sock. I think I have a few pairs of Wigwam socks at the moment. They're working fine.
I am currently wearing wrightsock coolmesh dual layer socks. I can't comment on how these work while hiking though, but they do exist.
I second the post on liners.
I also seem to get blisters unless I wear thin synthetic liners. Jardine mentions wearing a couple of pairs of liner socks by themselves, but I always wear a liner plus a thicker (smartwool) sock, thickness depending on the season.
I love my X-Socks Run Sky Run. The hiking models ride up the calf but I use the running model because I don't wear hiking boots… Good air movement and fast wicking.
Teko Light Hikers
Jaiden, you wrote "I am currently wearing wrightsock coolmesh dual layer socks." — these socks are great, I did a 15 day hike with them on the High Sierra Trail this summer and they were fantastic! Specifically, we're talking about their lightest weight full crew size dual layer sock.
I agree. I've been wearing these Wrightsocks for years and I absolutely love them. The dual layer really helps against blisters, and they're nice, and thin, and breathy.
My smartwool socks survived 2 months of hitchhiking being washed about 3 times and remaining comfy and relatively non stinky. oh…. and by washed I mean they got soaked i nthe rain and I let them airdry ;-)
+1 for the X-Socks Run Sky Run
After trying all classic hiking socks (Rohner, Falke) as well as some running socks, I gave my running socks a try with the idea that if they do the job for running, why shouldn't they do the job for fast hiking too?
I tend to sweat from the feet (among other) when moving fast, and these socks breathe very well as well as offer good foot protection.
I got only blisters once with them, but on my foot sole, and definitely because of the shoes (inov8 flyrock, when sole seems to be to soft when running over stones, thus irritations ending in blisters).
Only drawback I see: the black version is really hard to get…
