For me, 2014 was a year of many great trips. Unlike previous years, it was mostly an amalgam of shorter (3-4 day) trips instead of just a few longer epic trips.

How many days did you get out this year? I don't have an exact count, but near as I can tell it's somewhere north of 50 nights in the backcountry. Here are a few of my favorite photos from the last 12 months. Post yours too!

In a rock scramble around Chilao in the Angeles National Forest, I found a rock that looked like a giant chameleon, so I decided to ride it.

How many nights out?? Gotta count them up.

Okay, it's 173 and would've been more but unforeseen events occurred in December requiring my presence. The number can be verified here—

Here's a few of my fave 2014 pics—

keron tent
The Keron tent in a midnight snow atop Flats Mt in TN.

chantelle

Patman
Patman in Glenn Gap on Fodderstack Ridge on the BMT. I like the autumn colors.

Most of my trips were long and around 18-24 days w/o resupply, so my food load alone was around 45 lbs.

That's amazing Walter. Are you retired? I have a friend who broke 100 in 2014 and I thought that was a lot! Both he and I have full time jobs, so hard for either of us to do much more than what we did in 2014.

Definitely retired. Backpacking forums are pretty slow on the interweb and so I participate here on BPL but I'm into SUL backpacking—Seriously Ultra-Loaded. So don't look to me for gram answers or gear hope.

Just like to talk about pretty pics and backpacking—the first and main word in BackPackingLight.

Very slow year for me as far as nights out, and would have been in terms of states visited if I hadn't been able to go out West twice.
Doubt I broke 40 nights, much less the 75+ I normally average, but life happens.

These are 2 of my favourite 2014 photos because it's the trip where my wife, who feels and fears the cold terribly, discovered that she could go out in the snow and still have fun, thus opening up a fourth season of backpacking for us.
