One of the Joys of Hiking is putting on cold wet boots in the morning. NOT. It can take days at home, so nothing is happening in the woods. In the days of campfires and heavy leather boots, many a pair were ruined trying to dry them too close to the fire. Try to walk out in curled up baked boots— not good.

Those little hand/pocket warmers can keep your shoes/socks from freezing at night, as long as its not overtly cold. ~3oz per pair, so not a viable option for a week+ long trip, but for a weekender, its a good little option.

Obviously most the other suggestions already posted are better, but just wanted to throw this suggestion out, as it had not been posted yet.

I happen to like the route of using a Vargo Titanium Water Bottle with Titanium Lid in one shoe and a Hunersdorf Water Bottle 1.0 Liter in my other shoe (because those are the two cold weather, hot water capable, bottles I carry.)

I've left mine next to a fire in a shelter (GSMNP) all night and they were still a bit damp the next morning. The best thing you can do it use VBLs and treat the outside leather so it beads off mositure. You'll need to reapply often.

Also, remove the insoles over night. They hold a lot of water, so try drying them in your bag.
