I'm planning a trip to the Winds in August/September, 2015. We would be coming from Big Sandy and will enter the Cirque over Jackass Pass. But we want to head up toward Titcomb Basin after. I'm wondering about going over New York Pass to exit the Cirque as a quicker way to get to the Continental Divide Trail. Anyone with good knowledge of New York Pass to advise about this route? This will be our third trip to the Winds – a truly spectacular place!
New York pass or Texas are fine and will allow for faster travel northbound to Titcomb basin. I would recommend staying on the old Highline and more specifically Freemont trail on you way up. Much more scenic and enjoyable terrain.
