I'm looking for a light-ish weight Schoeller (or Schoeller like) ~ 5-6 oz/yard pant- cargo pockets, cut on the roomy side w/ a good DWR. The old Patagonia Rock Guides and Rock Craft pants are just about the right weight, would really like cargo pockets if such a pant exists

thanks in advance

Dead bird gamma lt … Find a sale or itll cost u a pretty penny

The prana zions also work but i cant tell you too much about the DWR as i tear them up on dry rock usually

Regardless with heavy use no DWR wikl last too long

OR and BD also have (or had) schoeller pants

Theres also the westcomb recon cargo pants made of schoeller

;)

I can tell you everything about the Prana Zions. I've been wearing a pair 6 days a week for six months.

The same pair.

So, there's your durability. Hiking, scrambling, biking, rock climbing, rock gymning, etc. The stretch is wonderful and the fit is perfect, loose but not baggy and comfortable while looking smart.

The DWR was bad at the beginning and is nonexistent now after some 30+ washes. Not a problem; they dry so fast, I've never had a "wet pants" issue even when caught in rain at 30 degrees. I usually pair them with a wool baselayer and haven't been miserable. If you want a pair of pants for rain, IMO you need rain pants, period.

The spandex in the thighs and knees wore out a bit. No noticeable difference in performance, just a few wispy spandex "hairs" in these areas. Maybe one per centimeter. I've ignored them.

No cuff wear. Wow, for what I use them for, wow.

Belt is near-useless. Tends to slip. Cut it off and use the belt loops.

The cargo pocket is small. The main pockets are durable mesh (not ripped yet, despite keeping keys, leatherman, etc). and are DEEP pockets.

Ask if you have questions. On durability alone, hands down the best value ever.

thanks gents :) the Zions look like they are cut fairly trim-true? I prefer a more traditional/roomier cut

MH has a Chockstone Casual (cut roomier) that is a 4 way stretch pant- looks like it's lacking any cargo pockets though

You might want to go to the MountainGear web site that lets you search on softshell AND pants.

I am pretty sure that most of these are designed for climbing, skiing, and lowish weight so you will not find multiple pockets, let alone cargo pockets. I like the Arcteryx Gamma LTs but they have alas just three pockets.

In the past on BPL folks have said good things about the REI Mistrals which are made with Schoeller Cloth.

The zion wears like normal pants and has a cargo pocket

The gamma lt has a cargo pocket as well

If you want more than 1 cargo pocket then it gets tricky

Most are built to fit an avalanche tranceiver or so

I'm not sure if these are a Schoeller material or not, but they are a stretchy lightweight soft-shell pant with cargo pockets on both legs. They do have a DWR finish.

The fit would be roomier than the Prana Zion for example without being excessively baggy.

They only come in Tan or Camo.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I ended ordering up a pair of Mountain Hardwear Chockstone Midweight "Casual" pant for a steal (steal as in about 1/4th the cost of the retail on the Arcteryx LT's)- it appears to be Schoeller or Schoeller like material- "4 way stretch, double weave softshell" ~ 13 oz. They offer it in a trimmer fit version as well (Chockstone Active), but prefer my pants roomier. I plan on cropping them fairly short and take the extra material and have a gal at work sew some small cargo pockets.
