Given the level of interest in malto here, I hope people will forgive my posting to "Food" rather than "Bikepacking," but I'm looking to get some agglomerated maltodextrin for cycling. I've tried the powdered, and to me, at least, it's not worth the hassle, but I'd like to give agglomerated a try as an alternative to the drink mixes (my previous fav added some stevia and I don't like the taste now).

I tried the sources mentioned in previous threads, and while I can accept (reluctantly) the idea of a 50 lb bag, there was also a $200 minimum order, so I was looking at about 150 lbs! :(

Anyone know where one can get agglomerated maltodextrin in more reasonable amounts? Anyone in northeast or florida want to go in together on some? (Southern california might also work, if you do the ordering.)

Cheers,

Bill S.

The only maltodextrin I'm aware of is what homebrewers use to kick up the body of their beer as an additive.

It's usually powdered, but maybe looking at beer brewing supplies is an idea? There's some exotic stuff there. It's usually stupid cheap.

Unfortunately, I've never been able to find any small quantities. We could do a group buy if some folks were willing.

Bill,

Check out CytoCarb 2. I bought some today based on some research and it appears to be agglomerated. Two pounds was $13 at my local vitamin shop.

"Two pounds was $13 at my local vitamin shop."

Two pounds is $1 out of a 50# bag. The OP is looking for the bulk rate.

Maybe my reading comprehension is off, but I thought he was looking to try agglomerated without having to buy a 50lb bag. Trying to find bulk pricing in small quantities of anything will be difficult, hence the term bulk pricing.

Either way, maybe there is someone else out there like myself who is looking for small amounts instead of a 50lb bag. If so, CytoCarb 2 appears to be an option. Thanks

How do you know it's agglomerated? I couldn't find anything on the website mentioning that.

I'm not 100% certain, Greg is the only person i know who has seen it. However, it's very different than the powder maltodextrin that I have. This isn't really a powder, more like sugar crystals. You can shake it around and it doesn't create the dreaded dust cloud. Mixes in cold water easily without clumping. Even if it's not, I will stick to this stuff instead.

That sounds like agglomerated malto all right. Thanks, Ryan. I was reluctant to pop for it without knowing.

Thanks, Ryan. If I can't find a way to get something more like 50 lbs (or less, as opposed to > $150 lbs), I may give this a try some time.

Still hoping for some takers n a group order.

Cheers

Bill
