Foam pad or other supplement

I did a search on reflectix thinking that it might be an inexpensive way to boost my thermarest xlite warmth for a few extra ounces on colder weekenders late fall but I couldn't find any real definitive answers on it. It looks like, short of going with another pad like the xtherm or similar, some type of foam pad might be best. What do you like and do you prefer a full length pad when supplementing another or do you get by with something torso length. Looking to get down to maybe 10F so another 15 degrees of insulating power would do nicely.

Yeah I think the xlite already has an internal reflector.

I used an $8 ccf pad to supplement last winter. Since my existing pad is only torso and I don't use a ground cloth, I kept it full length to keep snow melt from soaking my pack under my feet. I was very warm. When I've gone with only 1 pad (2.3 R) in 14 F I was colder but still able to sleep.

I've heard good things on BPL about using a UL klymit pad between a ground cloth another pad to help the airgap. Its more expensive but packs alot smaller than a full length CCF.

If you don't have a simple scarf or something to cover your nose at night I recommend it as well.

If your regular pad is full length, you could try supplementing with a 3/4 length CCF pad. If you regular pad is 3/4 length, you might want to go with a full length supplemental pad.

Gossamer Gear makes a ThinLight pad that is 1/8″ thick (pretty minimal in other words), but if you just need a bit of a boost to your regular pad, that might do it. I’ve used my Thinlight (full length) to supplement my 3/4 length regular pad.
