We've done the Inca trail to Machu Picchu, and loved it. Now we're interested in going back to Peru for more hiking/trekking.

Does anyone have any suggested trips, regions or companies we should consider? Looking at Huaraz, Arequipa…

We are looking at a 5-10 day trek in the Cordillera Blanca in the next year or so. I was originally planning the Inca Trail, but when I found out how crowded it is, I changed my mind (the JMT was my first/last "popular" trail).

If you're ok with longer periods at higher elevation (12k-16k), the Cordillera should be spectacular.

There are a number of US-based tour companies that sell those treks, but we were thinking of hiring a local company (less expensive, more flexibility) when we get there.
