All,
Tomorrow is my first winter ascent of a peak greater than 12K ft. The trail is 4.5-5 miles long and covers 3,300ft of elevation gain and right now its looking like there will be 6-12 inches of fresh snow, I have alll the requisite gear but could use some advise on what to bring food wise. I currently have about 1400 calories worth of food and I clearly need significantly more than that. I could use some advice on water as well. I am planning on bringing either two liters of water or 1 liter of water and 1 18 ounce hydroflask full of tea as well. Don't know if I should bring more water I generally don't drink that much while hiking but I have a feeling as hard as this will probably be I may drink more I am bringing a small stove to boil water with and could always melt snow if necessary. Let me hear what you guys think I should bring for food and water.
Here is my food so far that I have packed
Trail mix 1 cup — I am thinking I should bring more here
Date/fig bars 2
Granola bar x 2
Clif bar x 1
Ramen noodles = plan on eating these once we get back down to treeline
1 bag of jerky probably 300 calories or so. Don't know exactly
peanut butter or almond butter squeeze packs
I almost forgot to mention that this is a day trip. Getting started really really early tomorrow morning.
