I use the sawyer mini as an inline filter on my bladder. It's worked perfectly so far. Nice and light and doesn't make it too hard to suck water through. By hanging the bladder I can also use it as a gravity filter. You'd be hard pressed to find a better filter and at $20 it's nice and easy on the wallet.

Another vote for the Sawyer Mini.
Cheap, light, and it gets the job done with minimal fuss.
You can either plumb it in-line your bladder tube (if you only want to carry one bladder), or use it plumbed between a 'dirty' bladder and a 'clean' one. For multiple partners, this method works very well.

I use the original sawyer filter as a gravity filter (don't use hydration bladders). It works great for that and you can easily suck water through it "on-demand". The mini is the same thing just smaller and less expensive.

msr blader 10l

David I like this setup a MSR Dramadery 10l with the squeeze it is about 5z more than a 100oz camelback and a little lighter than the 3in1 but more versatile… the sport bottle top with a smart bottle… one would need the adapter… great for groups… also one can pull the filter and use the setup to take a shower heat the water solar or stove or wood… ymmv

David..I have all 3 Sawyer filters- the 3 way, the Squeeze, and the mini. They work great as inline filters. The adapters that come with the 3 way allow you to place the filter anywhere in your hydration hose. I placed mine near the bladder end of the hose because I carry it the side pocket of my pack and want the filter to sit in there too. If you carry your bladder behind you back you would not place the filter at that end of the hose because it could poke you in the back. Figure out where the filter will ride before you cut your hose to attach the adapters. The filter in the picture is the Squeeze and like the 3 way it comes with adapters that attach at each end and let you put the filter anywhere in the hose. The Mini is different. It has an adapter for one end and you drink out of the other so it has to go at the end of your hose.

Sunny, That's not entirely true. with a bit of work a hydration hose can be fitted over the drinking outlet of the mini and it can be used inline as close to or as far from the bladder as you like. Mine sits about a foot from the bladder and about 2 feet from the bite valve at the end of the tube.

I also have a Geigerrig bladder and am trying to decide which filter to use with it.

I have a Sawyer Mini but it seems to be pretty clogged already, even after back-flushing it. I haven't tried it inline with the bladder because I'm kinda nervous about cutting the hose.

So it's going to be between either the Sawyer 3-Way-Inline or the Geigerrig Virus Filter. The prices are comparable. The Sawyer can filter (way) more gallons and filters down to a smaller micron. The Geigerrig filter catches viruses, is about an oz lighter, and apparently I don't need to cut the tube (this is really my main concern…).

Anyone have any experience with the Geigerrig Virus Filter? Also, how important is that extra micron of filtration I get with the Sawyer?

I had mine set up with the larger quick connect Sawyer filter and that is pretty nice.
You can use it as a normal bladder with the filter spliced into the drink tube.

The entire rig is nice but a bit heavy.

Jesse… Yes you are absolutley right..you can shove a hydration hose over the end of a Sawyer Mini. I prefer not to do that because I am not very good at wrangling hydration tubes on and off..(I wrangle like a girl :) I prefer the quick disconnect adapters that allow you to easily seperate the filter from the hose for backflushing and cleaning. I am thinking I could get the hose on there but would have a terrible time getting it back off if I wanted to use the mini by itself with a water bottle. Do you leave the tube on there all the time or it it easy to pull off?
