I've been trying to get an answer to this question for some time but can't seem to dig one up.

For those who have completed the AT using Aquamira, how easy was it resupplying it in the trail towns? I abhor mail drops, something about them just annoys me, therefore I'm concerned about where one could purchase it when on a thru.

I currently use a steripen or sawyer mini for longer trips but would prefer drops. Love the pen, but it's heavy and my relationship with sawyer has been an abusive one. I've used drops for my shorter trips where restocking didn't come into play and have concluded it's my preferred method.

Also for those of you who have used drops on longer trips, about how long did you find the bottles would last you?

You really dont need to treat most sources. I use less than reccomended. How long lasts depends on how much you use.

At 4L per day, technically the 1 oz bottles would last 30 days or 120 L. They last me 2X that.

If you carry the large bottles, you only need to replace a couple times. You should be able to plan for that. Just have mailed to you, or bounce a few ahead.

Just off the top of my head, places with full-service outfitters that absolutely definitely have Aquamira –

Neels Gap
Franklin
NOC
Gatlinburg (but skip this town, it is a hideous abomination)
Hot Springs
Damascus
Dalevile
Waynesboro
DWG
Kent (only trail town that's worse than Gatlinburg, skip it)
Manchester Center
Killington
Hanover – (take the orange bus to nearby Lebanon)

You'll be totally fine. Just put it in your sleeping bag at night on cold nights; if the bottles are full it can and will burst if it freezes. I think I bought it in Hot Springs, Waynesboro, and Manchester Center.

Why not use Katadyn MicroPur chlorine dioxide tablets?

Easy to carry a lot and easier than mixing Aquamira.

The tablets are more expensive. Also, they have to dissolve completely before they go to work. The liquid is cheaper and faster, but it is more to carry.
