Hi folks,

Are there any noticeable advantages for using Garmin Topo Maps 24k
Over free maps.

Thanks,

Stephen

I have no experience with 24k but I bought the 100k scale with my device. I vastly prefer that to the free maps. I also like that I have the entire united states loaded up, wherever I go.

I rarely navigate with it, so it works fine for me.

Garmin has a site somewhere to see the detail, but I failed to find it.

Cheers Rick,

I has asked as I spotted a very good deal
on some maps I was interested in. I tried the free
maps but did not have anything to compare them too.

I'm also curious. I am based in Ohio so I would need three separate purchases of 24k maps to get Ohio and surrounding states. Not cheap! More than the GPS device alone.

Also trying to figure out custom maps maybe even including aerial imagery. Care to share the deal you mention?

Got the maps at d-gps.com

I never heard of them before so I paid with paypal in case of
any issues.

What about the $30 a year subscription from garmin and compare to caltopo free… there are differences but it seems to be more of a look than content…

I have no experience with the subscription Michael, what does it provide?

I went ahead and purchased this set and went to Pinckney Rec area a couple of weeks ago….was glad to see that the map had the Pinckney trails on them, which I liked.

The set I ordered should be here on Friday so will try them out next weekend.
