Just curious to hear someone comment on how their Hilleberg performs with just the outer and the footprint (leaving home the inner tent).

I found a good deal on an Akto and a Soulo. The Soulo is heavier, but if I used it in a fastpack configuration using only the outer tent and the footprint it will weigh the same as the Akto would in its normal configuration.

Not sure how much you sacrifice using only the outer tent and not the inner. I imagine there will be a bit of a temperature difference and maybe some condensation, but makes for a lighter and roomier tent.

With the Soulo the weight savings will be about a pound, but seems that the weight savings is only about a half pound with the Akto.

thanks for your help

I have an Akto and a Nammatj 2.

I do this frequently. Works well for sleeping three people in a Nammatj 2. It also comfortably allows me to share an Akto with a 50-lbs six year-old, too. It's my default configuration for one or two night trips where the weather is reasonably predictable, bugs are limited, and I want to save weight.

The only downsides are slightly increased condensation, a couple of bugs in bug season, and a loss of defined vestibule space. Also, given no bathtub floor, you do have to pay some attention to siting. I am considering making a bathtub floor for my Akto. Come to think of it, other than winter trips, I don't think I've ever used the inner in my Akto.
