Thank you Ian. I'm just waiting for the next Ligthroom to come out this year. Never used LR before. Then I'll have to start looking at tutorials. Guess they will be making new tutorials for LR 6.

What's your experience so far?

There's a learning curve to Lighroom but I'm getting the hang of it. I'd probably be a bit further along if I'd take the time to finish the video series.

Ah, I wasn't being clear. I meant what did you think of the video tutorials you bought? And the YouTube videos so far?

Oh I understood the question. Of what I've watched of them so far, I think they're great. I just haven't finished the series yet.

The reason I haven't finished them has more to do with the fact that I'm trying to apply the stuff I learn as I go, and the fact that I'm busy with other things as well, than the quality of instruction.

I follow Tony's channel on YouTube and have found his reviews and free instructional videos to be informative and easy to digest.

Just so you know, the new version of Lightroom (6.0) is scheduled to be available beginning April 21st.

Thanks David.

And Ian.

I've read that all release dates posted are guess work. Supposedly Adobe hasn't given an official date yet. But I hope you are right :-).

Buying a new camera has really gotten me back on track taking pictures and enjoying it.

If this link is correct, at $149, hopefully this means that they won't limit access to people who want to rent software forever.

I'll probably wait until I achieve some level of mastery with 5 before I start shopping for anything else.

Peter,

Did I read on another thread that you have the OMD? I'd love to buy one just to have access to the M4/3 world without having to use an adapter. Their macro lens looks like a nice option.

Yes Ian, I just recently bought an OM-D E-M10. About 30 days ago, so I'm still at the beginning of the learning curve. I'm very satisfied so far. A lot of my satisfaction of the system comes from the lenses. I went straight into the system and bought 4 lenses because I couldn't help myself. I've mainly bought primes, because I've always wanted to try and shoot that way. I'm sold on primes now. Very small lenses, and high image quality. I've found my creative joy in taking photographs again!

Yes, the Macro lenses looks good, probably going to get the olympus 60mm Macro lens at some point.

At this point, I'm pretty happy with my lens setup. I've got an 18—36mm ultrawide, 24mm f2.0, 50mm f1.8, and 90mm f1.8. Lovely bokeh from the 50 and 90mm, all primes are sharp.

I'm considering buying a panasonic gm5 (circa 200g) to use when hiking. The OM-D E-M10 is a little heavier, but very pleasant to use. Much much better than my old canon DSLR.

It'll be hard to decide which lenses to bring hiking, but that's the fun of it.n

Ian, it's quit obvious in a nice way that you've been bitten by the shutterbug! :-). Not that long ago since you got your Sony A600 right? You seem quite enthusiastic, it's very pleasant to observe.

Photography is something that I've always been enamored with but have never invested any time to improve my technique. I was getting the occasional great shot but I chalk that up to the infinite monkey theorem than anything else.

What I love about it is that it goes with anything. Every now and then I'll catch a great shot at a hockey game (puck flying into the net and our player's stick still in the air after making the shot) and I can't lie, I love it when the players and family gush over how cool they looked. I'm of course proud that I was able to juggle a number of variables to catch that moment in moment in time.

I'm still a babe in the woods when it comes to photography but I think I've graduated from diapers to pull-ups, so there's hope. In the meantime, it's a great challenging hobby that puts a smile on my face.

>> Every now and then I'll catch a great shot at a hockey game …

Yes! That's the best feeling in the world. There I are times in editing that I stop and just look an image over, like it's not quite mine, knowing it's good.

>> … and I can't lie, I love it when the players and family gush over how cool they looked.

That's the icing on the cake. :)

My wife has the Olympus 60mm macro lens for m4/3. It's just a terrific lens. We got it on a $100 price reduction, so it was also a good deal at $400.

I've read nothing but good things about that 60mm Oly macro.

One of my largest criticisms with the Sony mirrorless platforms is the lack of quality native lenses. Rumor du jour is that there are a handful of lenses in the queue to be released this year.

This fe-mount Sony G 90mm Macro looks like it'll be a nice addition to their arsenal.

I'm slowly warming up to the thought of buying their FE 70-200 f4 for shooting sports but would rather have a f2.8 in that focal range, even with a price and weight penalty.

Both are out of my budget at the moment.

None of this has anything to do with LR but whatevs.
