With the goosefeetgear current 10% discount…I'm going to take advantage of it and get some overbooties and also a pair of down pants.

However…there isn't an explanation about his pants on the page (the explanation is "coming soon"), and previous threads about the GFG pants talk about different fabric material options.

Currently there is ->

Liner:
Silver Pertex Quantum
Black Pertex Quantum GL (+$10)
Green Pertex Quantum GL (+$10)
Gray 10d (+$10)

Shell:
Royal blue 20d
Silver Pertex Quantum
Green Pertex Quantum
Black Pertex Quantum GL (+$10)
Green Pertex Quantum GL (+$10)

Can someone give me a quick rundown on down proofness, breathability and durability of the different options? There is 10d, 20d, pertex quantum, pertex quantum gl.

Oh…..you are right. Ok, the only thing missing then is the difference between pertex quantum and pertex quantum gl (and if +$20 is worth it to have as an upgrade or not), and if there are difference in downproofness between silver/green pertex (as compared to the black/tan 10d as stated on the page ->

10d
There are two varieties of this fabric, both of which are very light and soft: the black has a good DWR treatment, and is thus better for the shell of a garment, and the gray and tan are more breathable, and thus better for the lining of a garment. There will be very light down leakage from the gray and tan 10d fabrics.

John, did you notice down leakage with the grey 10d?

I bought mine a couple of years ago now, so I am not totally sure if the materials are still the same. I got the black 10D for the outer, and the gray for the inner. The gray (and tan) is/was called Nobul 1, and the black is Nobul 2. Nobul 1 was/is the original 8D that Ti Goat sold (and still does?), then they added a bit more water resistance to that material, which resulted in a slightly heavier material (0.67 oz/sqyd vs 0.76 oz/sqyd), named Nobul 2.

After owning my pants for the past 2 years, I love them. Absolutely love them. And if I needed another pair, I would not hesitate to go straight to Ben and get another pair. However, I wouldn’t go with the gray for the inner. They do leak down pretty well…. granted, nothing that will make a big difference for some time, but in time, maybe. If I were to do it again, I would likely do the black Nobul 2 for both the inner and outer. IMHO, both material offer a silky, next to skin feel, and I would be just as happy with the Nobul 2 inside and out I believe. (Also, I should add that I sleep in mine, so I do roll around while wearing them, which I am sure also helps promote at least some of the down leakage.)

Saying all of that… I have heard some good things about Argon that Dutch sells. It is offered in the same weight range as Nobul, however, it has been reported to be a little more down proof, with a nice hand as well. If Ben isn’t using this material, I might would at least ask about buying some of this and having it shipped to him to make some pants in…

I didn't really notice until I read Chad's post, but I went and checked, and there is some slight down leakage with the gray 10D. I tried sleeping in mine, but they were too warm, so had to take them off. They've only seen use around camp in the mornings. I ordered mine with 3.5oz of down.

And if you both had to do it over again, you would still pick the 10d over the pertex quantum or 20d? i.e……get the black 10d for silky soft next to skin feel and for the lower weight? (I have several EE quilts in 10d and yes, they are soft!)

I would order the same pants again. I also have a quilt made by GooseFeet Gear with a green Pertex Quantum shell and tan 10D liner. Over 45 nights with it so far – rarely do I see a feather.
