Just curious if anyone's hiked these trails in Mid-March to Mid-April and could comment on the weather, specifically average temperatures. The AZT gets up high pretty fast and I'm expecting some spring snow but not sure what to expect for night time low temperatures.

Thanks!

Depends on the snowpack and whether it's a very good year. The western part of NM's GET (around Whitewater Baldy) could have packed snow linger into June. If it is a good year, you can call the Rangers. I could see the distant snowpack from the ridge over the Gila Visitor center several yrs back. If it's not a good snow year, you shouldn't have any problems.

Southern AZ weather is such a crap shoot during March: it could be freezing; it could equally be sweltering. The sun will already be getting hot by then. And temperatures can change drastically within 24 hours.

Once you get into April, you will be looking at hotter and hotter days with cool/cold nights.

As for snow — who knows? It changes year to year, so predictions will only be possible a week or so before your trip.

I'd plan on taking a relatively warm sleeping bag/quilt, similar to what you'd bring for the PCT after the desert portion (something like a 20F).

Was hoping to get away with a lighter sleep system that's only good down to freezing, but it sounds like I better just take my 15 degree quilt for the whole trip instead. The microspikes will have to wait until this winter pans out.

Thanks for the reality check!
