The first week of August, I took my girlfriend on her second backpacking trip. It was also my first trip out since before beginning law school. I took the bar the week before. Getting into the Sierras was a great place to get our feet wet after my hiatus. Very easy trip (theoretically). Spent the night in Mammoth the night before, short miles to get to such a beautiful place. Only my girl has asthma, and I have gained 20 pounds since I last walked into the wilderness. Either way, we had a blast, and it was absolutely gorgeous. We hike the "high trail" (PCT) out, and the Low Trail in. Fringe benefit of the drought was that there were nearly no mosquitos.
Here are some digital shots from my NEX-5N, followed by some film shots on TRI-X 400 shot with a Nikon FM3a.
Highly recommended for a gorgeous and relatively easy overnighter.
Thanks for looking.

This is Garnet as seen from the high trail. We hiked the JMT from Thousand Island to the outlet of Garnet where there is a steep unmaintained trail which you can take to connect with the low trail.

First glimpse of Banner

I recommend getting on the trail earlier that 12PM. literally every spot was taken and there were people camping right on the water all over the place due to lack of spots. also it sucks to hunt for a camp when your feet are tired and all you want is dinner

sunrise came with still waters
