I'm in the process of ordering a bivy from MLD and would like opinions regarding which options to purchase, as I have never used a bivy before. I'm interested in the Soul bivy.
Should I purchase the sturdier, heavier floor with a 1.2 oz weight penalty which costs $30.00 extra?
Should I get the side zip with .8 oz weight penalty and $50.00 extra in costs?

In the case of the lighter floor, that will depend on where you camp (ground conditions), and how you take care of it…maybe someone who has experience with both materials can comment. I usually put my 1/8" thinlite on the outside of my bivy to act as a ground sheet/insulation layer – so I personally would go with a lighter floor because I know I can take care of it.
As for the side zip, that is one option I really wish I had. Reason: when the weather is less then ideal, I pitch my tarp low and find it very dificult to get in and out of my bivy without causing some chaos to my sleep contents inside.
I would particularly like a "center zip" so I could lay ON my bivy, and get in from the top.

I originally had a bivy with no side zip and paid to have one added.
As for the floor as the previous writer mentioned, it depends on where you use it, but for me heavier floor is worth its weight.
