I'm looking for some good all-round winter tights or soft shell pants. After a cold, wet weekend bike ride, I would like something that I could wear biking or hiking that has good DWR and abrasion resistance. I'm thinking of temperatures above freezing for the most part. Please share your favorites!

I really like my golite fleece lined tights. They are more abrasion resistant that most other tights. They aren't something you go bushwacking with but for light brush, rock scrambling, and deadfall vaulting they have been fine. The fabric it's made out of doesn't absorb much water and is good at staying warm when it gets wet.
They aren't weather resistant but the tights are slightly wind resistant.
Get them before the disappear…

I've been wanting to try some actual softshell winter tights and I'm wondering how water resistant, windproof, and breathable they are.

Unlined, thick 4-way stretch softshell fabric. Articulated knees. Zipper cuffs. Zipper pockets all around. Decent DWR water resistance. Available in short, regular, or long lengths. By themselves, good down below freezing. With base layer underneath, good down into the teens from my experience.

Best "winter tights" for me are PowerStretch fleece tights. Super warm, really comfortable. I wear them around a campsite, but would not wear them hiking (not water or wind or abrasion resistant). I do, however, wear them under rain shell pants for snow shovelling, etc.

I have worn them under Marmot Scree pants, but that's really too much for anything active. For hiking, I love Patagonia Cap 4 tights under the Scree Pants.

Eastern Mountain Sports, (EMS), sells a lighter weight, stretchy, softshell pant, frequently on sale. I got a pair for $36 last year, a 2nd with a few cosmetic stitching issues but nothing effecting function. I like them, and wore the on most of my winter hikes last year. They run a little big, though. I wish I had sized down.

I wear a regular three season soft shell pants in the winter, but if too cold just wear a base layer underneath.

the pants are made with schoeller dryskin which i've found to be a superior softshell fabric. i wear them for everything but warm weather. when it's cold i wear tights under them.

any decent brand that fits you ….

they are all pretty similar

personally i use dead bird gamma LTs but they can cost a pretty penny …

as said a 3-season softshell with long johns is more flexible

and if you wear it and abrade it enough the DWR wont last too long … so dont wear it daily

I got some of the REI Mistral pants and they are fine, altho I used them only 1 time because it hasn't been very cold here yet. Very similar to the Screes. I read that the acme w/schoeller is a little heavier, but any heavier than the Mistral and I think I'd just use a hard shell. I like the trimmer yet stretchy fit. It'll be interesting to see how much wind and cold they can handle.
