What books or websites are good for learning where springs are? There are great reads on water along the PCT near Los Angeles where I live but it is hard to know where else in the local forests I might find spare water?

Thx!

It's probably easiest to check out some maps of where you want to hike. Plan out some routes that come near creeks or springs and then poke around some area specific websites like
http://www.mtsanjacinto.info http://www.sgwa.org/index.htm

This website is good for ideas too and has good info

I'm sure there's others that I don't know about too

Or once you have a more specific idea of where you're heading, ask away in the Pre trip planning subforum on here.

Or you could call the ranger station that covers the area you want to go

Water sources are hard to come by down here. If you can't get any recent updates on a water source you're interested in, it's best to assume it's currently dry.

Hope that helps!
