Quick story I thought you guys might like.
I'm in a Master's program for Sustainability Science, and as part of the program, we get thrown these group project gauntlets where the workload is near-impossible to actually meet; the idea is, you experience what it's like to work under intense deadlines and with vague guidelines and collaborate to produce a comprehensive report anyways.
Starved for a halloween costume and not one to go buy one for one day a year, I went as a lost thru-hiker yesterday. I dramatically tied a bunch of pots and bandannas and stuff to the outside of my Kelty frame pack and the whole thing looked very funny. Walking around campus with full camping gear was a blast.
Anyways, the sit pad.
So, one of our group members, Sarah, misses class the previous week from a back injury. Really unfortunate. We pull some extra hours and come up with our project mostly without her, and she pushed herself to be at the presentation anyways. We were the last group to present and she's very obviously hurting a little after the class begins.
I reach into my pack and pull out the Z-Lite foam sit pad that's been with me for every trip I've done. She gives me this "thank the stars" look and puts it at the small of her back and is way more comfortable for the rest of the class, like two hours of sitting. We give our presentation, all of us (including Sarah) absolutely nail it, and the day is saved.
I might just start carrying that sucker around all the time… I can't NOT find use for it!
