Is it just when it's just too impractical for them to continue removing the snow? For instance they are expecting 4-8 inches this weekend but the NPS has posted up that they intend to reopen the road. Have a trip planned out of Tuolumne just before Thanksgiving and am hoping we can still get up there.

Chris,

Tioga Road may be going to reopen this year, but it will still remain closed for overnight parking (has been since Oct. 15th) They do this so that –

A) In the event of winter starting for real, you're car isn't not stuck for months, and

B) So that if there is clearable snowfall, the ploughs don't have to avoid your parked car.

Dave, I had forgotten about that. I did check the historic dates but forgot about the overnight parking thing. Will have to play it by ear. I guess if things get bad we'll do something else. Thanks for the ideas folks.

Regardless of the weather or the forecast, past October 15 you don't park anywhere in there without expecting a citation.

Does that include established parking lots near ranger stations and such?

"Does that include established parking lots near ranger stations and such?"

Exactly.

The few ranger stations have already closed for the season.
