Just passing on some information I just received from LL Bean about this jacket for anyone who's interested now or in the future.

http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/83564?feat=ul%20down%20850%20jacket-SR0&page=ultralight-850-down-jacket

I found a few reviews here at BPL:

http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/reviews/display_reviews.html?forum_thread_id=26877

But no fill weight nor did I find a spec data tab on LL Bean's website.

Per LL Bean, size medium has a total weight of 14 oz with 3.45 oz of down.

And now you know…. the rest… of the story.

Looks like a nice jacket for the front country but oz for oz I'd rather have the MB Alpine Light at 11.6 oz and 4 oz of fill and $25 less.

I have had the vest and jacket for at least two years, maybe more. I believe I got them the first year they appeared. I had a Patagonia down sweater that wasn't enough to keep me warm.
I have found the Bean's products quite satisfactory for whenever I need down.

My jacket is an XL and it is 17.4 oz./492 grams. The vest is a large and 13.0 oz./368 grams.

Of course, it was a fairly easy purchase given the Bean's return policy and that I go by their store a few times a year.

I've used neither but, given how good the LLBean warranty is, that may even be worth a few extra dollars if you can't find a coupon.

I'm in Eddie Bauer land and am not sure if we have an LL Bean within driving distance or not. Yes I'm lazy and could have googled that before posting. I haven't been too crazy about EB's outdoorsy down jackets other than the cheapie one I own. This one looks like a winner for when it gets really cold. At 40% off, I'd be willing to roll the dice and mail order one.

Thanks for the tip and I'll definitely sign up for their mailer.

Sorry, was confusing lands end with ll bean. We've had good success with lands end primaloft jackets and large discounts.

LL Bean, among other quality retailers like Eddie Bauer, uses Down Tek for their down DWR treatment. Plus this particular jacket listed by the OP uses 850 fill down AND Down Tek treatment.

IMHO this is a very big thing for down garments. In the future all my down gear will have a good down DWR treatment.

"Per LL Bean, size medium has a total weight of 14 oz with 3.45 oz of down."
More than I expected from the pics. Should be warmer than the EB offerings that seem to be its closest competitor.
By contrast, the EB/First Ascent Microtherm *hoody* has 2.34oz of 800 fill Downtek, and the large has 2.52oz of fill@~12oz total.
Those are 40% off right now with free shipping, for people who don't need more warmth.
EB doesn't list the fill weights, either, but their CS people will also look it up if you ask. I only asked about the hoody(and forgot to ask if the face material was different with the new ones). They go up or down by size fairly consistently, with the small hoody at 2.2, XL at 2.7something, and the XXL having 2.9oz.

No worries Joseph. I have a Lands End fleece vest thanks to work and it's one of my favorites.
