I'm currently toying with spending a week on the Palmetto Trail in early December, starting at the Awendaw Passage and working up to Columbia. I've done day hikes on the Awendaw Passage and weekenders around Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion, but am now trying to string together the logistics of thruing this thing and am coming up dry (literally).
In particular, has anyone done the whole Swamp Fox passage? The site (http://www.palmettoconservation.org/swampfox.asp) suggests that all three water sources (Halfway Creek, Witherbee Ranger Station, Canal Trailhead) are closed. I think I could drop off a cache at Halfway, and am now wondering what the water looks like at the Nicholson Creek site. For the most part along these trails I know it's usually pretty brackish and stagnant water but the word "creek" is giving me some hope I could actually filter something drinkable here.
Appreciate any insight y'all might have on this passage and any others you've done on the southern bits of the trail.
