How many actually use their down hood?

I am another hood user. Around camp when it is cool/cold, often with a ball cap under it to make it behave better. I also like a hooded fleece when I ski in very cold windy conditions to wear under my helmet to keep my neck warm. The goggles seem to keep it in place so it does not impact my peripheral vision.

Very often.

Part of my sleep system year round, though the down piece varies. I'm a quilt guy and cold prone. The hood means no beanie in summer, no balaclava in winter (I'm also claustrophobic.

Really helps in winter by shutting out the wind when hiking or skiing a ridge line, or at breaks. By using a hood on a layering piece I don't have to upgrade to a heavier parka or similar layering piece.

I'm a hood man. I'm skinny and get cold easy, use quilts sometimes, and won't buy a puffy without a hood anymore. I've had a number of puffy jackets both with and without hoods. sold all the ones without and now all i have is hoodies. I like hoods – although they do sometimes get in the way, the extra warmth when I want it or need it is worth it to me. Having a puffy with hood (Patagonia Ultralight for sumer, OR Incandescent for colder weather) allows me to bring a very light Powerstretch beanie for when I'm moving (or an R1 hoody for colder weather) and then pull on the hood at camp or if it gets really cold. Then I can pull on the shell with hood over everything else for truly bad conditions. This system covers just about any temps I've been in. Including everything from sierras (may to october) to shasta/rainier to backcountry skiing in tahoe to resort skiing in winter.

All the time. For the weight I can't find a better way to stay warm.

I love hoods on pretty much all my clothing and wear them frequently, on the move or not. Only time I'm not crazy about hoods is when I've got like 3 or 4 layers of them and I'm trying to temp regulate on the move with gloves on. I'd use my xenon on the move like this climbing or skiing and roll down the hood into the snap closure, which helped. Honestly though, I'd take a hood over a beenie any day. Warmer, better coverage, less faf.

My friend and I did a fun local ridge scramble on a windy as hell day in august and we both wore (and needed) our down puffies & hoods for the entire traverse (I know this seriously conflicts with cold hard bpl data to be doing more than sitting at camp in a puffy ;) With as much wind as there was, I was glad to have the hood on my cerium to seal in the heat. Here's my buddy, hooded, in his space-age silver ghost whisperer.
